Recently released reports detail common side effects experienced by recipients of the vaccines recently approved by the FDA for the prevention of the swine flu.

The FDA has approved four vaccines for the prevention of swine flu. Recent preliminary reports from clinical trials of these vaccines have described common side effects encountered by participants. The first of the preliminary reports published is from a continuing study in Australia, where researchers are testing an inactivated H1N1 vaccine developed by CSL Ltd. in a group 240 volunteers. Following injection, 90% of recipients achieved a strong immune response within three weeks, a sign that the vaccine is working. Participants reported side effects that they experienced within 7 days. Another study tested an H1N1 vaccine developed by Novartis Pharmaceuticals with and without an oil-in-water adjuvant, known as MF29 in 175 adults.

Local Side Effects from Approved H1N1 Vaccines

No deaths or serious adverse events have been reported from any swine flu vaccine. Approximately 44% of participants reported mild side effects within 7 days of receiving the first dose of CSL’s swine flu vaccine. 2.5% of vaccine recipients reported moderate local side effects, and there were no severe adverse events reported after immunization. 86% of the volunteers that received Novartis’s H1N1 vaccine reported adverse reactions after one or both doses – the most common local side effect experienced was injection site pain. The reactions were generally mild or moderate and resolved after 72 hours. Reported local adverse events, or side effects occurring at the location where either vaccine had been administered, include the following:

  • Tenderness
  • Pain
  • Redness
  • Hardening of skin
  • Swelling
  • Bruising

Common Systemic Side Effects from Swine Flu Vaccines

Systemic effects were also reported by CSL and Novartis vaccine recipients. Approximately 36% of volunteers that received the swine flu vaccine manufactured by CSL experienced mild systemic side effects. 8% of vaccine recipients reported moderate systemic side effects, and less than 1% experienced a severe adverse reaction to immunization. Severe side effects reported include, malaise, muscle pain, and nausea. Muscle aches were the most common systemic side effect reported by participants receiving the H1N1 vaccine produced by Novartis, and no severe systemic side effects were reported. The following are common whole-body side effects occurring in response to either H1N1 vaccination.

  • Headache
  • Malaise (feeling out-of-sorts)
  • Muscle pain
  • Chills
  • Nausea
  • Fever
  • Vomiting

In addition, researchers evaluated the occurrence of select adverse events including neurologic (e.g. Guillain-Barre syndrome), immune system or other serious reactions. According to the studies, none of the enrolled participants experienced these select events.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has also recently released preliminary safety information for an additional swine flu vaccine manufactured by Sanofi Pasteur Inc. Approximately 96% of healthy adults showed a robust immune response after receiving the vaccine. The only adverse events reported by trial participants were pain and redness at the injection site.

MedImmune LLC has received approval for a nasal spray H1N1 vaccine. While no safety data for this vaccine has been released to the public, MedImmune spokeswoman Karen Lancaster has reported that side effects are similar to those experienced with the nasal spray vaccine for the seasonal flu. Common events encountered by nasal spray vaccine recipients include runny nose, nasal congestion, and sore throat.

While preliminary reports show that approved swine flu vaccines have a low incidence of serious side effects, people can more accurately assess the relative risk of getting vaccinated for swine flu as more safety information from the studies investigating these four H1N1 vaccines is collected and made available to the public in the upcoming months.

Following her swine flu shot, my wife became terribly constipated; it was similar to what taking 4000 mg of hydrocodone apap per day (for fibromylagia) did to her, but she hasn't had the hydrocodone apap in almost four months. Is this side effect for H1N1 unusual?

A type of swine flu breakout in 1979 had many people rushing to get a vaccination also. Paralysis and neurological problems were side effects. Check out the history & make an educated decision!

something is totally not right with this vaccine. have they even tested it properly or is this experimental. it came so fast. theres something fishy about this vaccine

I think that its best to not even get the vaccine from all the people that are experiencing pain and nausea after getting the shot. They were better off praying and leaving that swine flu vaccine alone. It was probably just something they rushed and made up without bothering to consider the side effects. They rushed and put something together to try to calm down the issue of swine flu and only made things worse. For Gods sake people's lives are at stake here.

As a mother of a 6 year old daughter, the choice was difficult. You need to weigh the pros and cons and speak to your doctor if you have concerns. After doing research, my husband and I elected for our daughter to have the shot. For us, a little discomfort while getting the shot far outweights the alternative of burrying our child. There are some side effects, but those side effects are no different than when you get the seasonal flue vaccine. So far, our daughter has had no side effects and no problems and she is protected from swine flu. If your child has underlying medical problems or conditions, I would definitely consult my doctor before making a decision one way or the other. These vaccinations effect every person and child differently.

I have been hearing pros and cons about this vaccine . I have a 2 year old and four year old and I still don't know if its worth getting this darn vaccine . A girl I know who has a 5 year old boy got the vaccine for him and they injected the adult dose into his body by mistake, Do people even know what they a doing ????? That was just horrible

Get it. The side affects a re better than dealing with the flu itself. Also, even if you might not suffer much from the flu, how would you feel if you passed it on to someone else who's body couldn't hand;e it. I work with kids everyday and I got the shot for their benefit, not mine. My muscles ache, but my conscience is clear.

I already had a bit of a cold when I had received the swine flu shot yesterday. Today I am feeling severely nauseated and also have hot and cold chills and pain at the injection site. Along with those symptoms, I'm also feeling "out-of-it". Hopefully this does not last long. And to add, I am a 23 year old female. I have a two year old daughter who will be getting the vaccination next week, right now she has a bit of a fever from a seasonal cold/flu so the health care workers would not allow her to have the shot until her fever was gone.

from what i've been reading most of the side effects people are claiming have come with ever other flu vaccine. chills, fever, nausea ,headache, tiredness, sorness and brusing in the spot of the enjection.

I recieved the vaccine yesterday and thus far, I have experienced nothing but the intramuscular pain of having a needle shoved into my arm (which would be the same as injecting water into your arm - the vaccine does not cause this pain - but swelling around the injection site is caused by the virus). I have an autoimmune disorder and asthma - the risk of getting the virus is much greater than the risk of getting the vaccine. There is significant controversy behind the vaccine - however, this controversy was stirred up by a man who is the executive of an all natural - herbal remedy company. He has everything to gain by making us recall the GBH side effects that occurred in the 70s. It is no less safe than gettig the seasonal flu vaccine - there are potential side effects to every single drug we take. However, the CDC is reporting that by next year the mortality rate of the H1N1 virus will be 60% of the people who contract it. There is no question in my mind that I made the right decision.

did they forget to mention that almost 1 in 150 people will come down with dystonia, a rare neurological disorder that shares alot of the same common traits as someone who came into contact with a chemical nerve gas agent which makes you shake and stutter uncontrollably and eventually leads to death....this just make me trust the government even less than i did before but is that even possible?

More people die from Flu Vaccinations than they do the Flu. Look it up and then decide. Check out what happened in 1976 with the amount of deaths attributed to the vaccine as opposed to the vaccinations. 25 times more people died from the vaccine than the flu itself. What's wrong with letting your immune system (designed by nature, not by a drug company) to develop and respond as it was designed to?

I took the vaccine and now I have not gotten sick ever since. i think people should take it so they can at least have an advantage of not getting it. We should put our trust in the government. But the thing that worries me is the side effects. I don't think I want them to take it with all of the side effects, especially at a young age. So at age of 12 I am going to go and have them take it.

I recieved the H1N1 vaccine and I havent felt good since the vaccine! Within two hours of the shot I got hives and a nasty rash. It has been almost two weeks since I recieved the vaccine and I find my head out of sorts, headache, fever, chills, nausea, and diarrhea. I am unsure if I would get this vaccine again. I work in a hospital and it is hard to function. We have a few people out of work sick after recieving the vaccine. It really stinks that some people end up with these nasty side effects and let me tell you, they suck! I just pray everyday that I feel better. I have other medical problems as well, that bring me down and this is just the icing on the cake! If I was you I would really rethink the options!

1976 to 2009 many years further double so much wiser? The development and research in the medical field do progress too. Mistakes from the past are a lesson for the present and future. But can we, non-experts in the medical field, bench-mark the results of the progress. Can we blindly follow every press release or marketing anouncement.
"Is it safe to use?", that is the question for which we seek an answer.

I got the vaccine 2 days ago and have felt like I have a mild cold all day. Not too bad really just a runny nose, some sneezing and a few chills. I haven't oinked much at all.
I'm glad to feel this way for a day or 2 knowing my body is building antibodies against H1N1.
I will try and get the shot for my teens ASAP.

As a nurse, don't let the government tell you what you should do. TALK with your doctor! Atleast with a medical professional, a doctor who knows more, should help you to make a better judgement call. It is your final decision, and I hope you do go to your doctor. I only got mine because I work in a hospital.

I am astounded by the comments people have posted. They are completely uninformed and spewing data that is false. Had the H1N1 vaccine 3 days ago - sore arm, some fever. These are part of the immune system trying to make it's antibodies. People who think the immune system can take care of itself are not recalling years of the past where small pox, diphtheria and many other deadly diseases went rampant. Why, because people had no way to protect themselves with vaccines. Do you get it? The disease is worse than the poke!!

I had mine today and I've had a sore arm, malaise, a very mild headache and now I'm getting chills. I had a sore arm and chills/fever last year from the normal flu shot though so this doesn't seem like an odd reaction from me. I'll be fine after a good nights sleep. As for everyone else around here who's got the shot so far, it seems like everyone gets a sore arm, but that's usually it.

I am a 12 year old boy and I had gotten my shot on the 26th and since the 29th, I have been feeling nauseated and It has been like this since friday. I slept 1 whole day since it happened. My throat started to hurt a lot, when I awoke I had a terrible fever, my body was aching and I had a high fever. It's been one day and I still feel terrible, I could barely move my body and medicine hasn't been helping me. When I started to eat again, my body wasn't so tired and I could walk again for a short time about 10-20 minutes and I would get very tired

**Research over and over!! I have been torn about my 5 yr old daughter with asthma getting this vaccine. I asked for God to give me a sign on whether or not to get my child the vaccine and the next day our sales rep came into my work and said his 11 year old nephew had the h1n1 vaccine and a week later started complaining he had a headache few hours later he went into a terrible seizure now this poor child has been in the hospital ever since and had severe seizures one after the other. After testing and x-rays they can't seem to find out why this is happening??? Things that make you go hummm? Now you tell me this child has never had any health problems or seizures
What is in the vaccine that could make you have neurological problems maybe the preservative thermisol(mercury) and I wonder what else.
Overall I have had several signs after reading these post and will only get the flu shot if it is preservative free which I can not find for my daughters age group her pediatric doctor has it for 3 years and under and Walgreens only has it for adults so what do you do I will continue to pray for this 11year old boy and hope this Swine flu will leave as fast as it came. Good luck to everyone one.

First...This is not a live vaccine- it does not get you sick to make you immune. Secondly, the medication itself is thicker than water and so it sits under the skin until it is absorbed, thus the lump (swelling) and irritation. And as with anythign you inject into your body, there are bound to be some who realize an allergy the did not know about, there are some who's bodies are going to fight it (out-of-it feeling) There has been plenty of research on this vaccine, and many changes made since the doses of 1979. Researching on FDA sights is considerably more accurate than trusting what other paranoid non-subjective *people* have to say about something they have not studied or experienced from a medical point of view.
My 5 yr old had no reaction, my 7 yr old threw up and had a sore arm. I can hardly move my arm. But it is still better than getting sick and potentially dying. We all have asthma.

Received the h1n1 shot on Thursday Oct. 29th, two days later I am coughing, throat feels scratchy, very lethargic, and chilling at night, symptoms seem worse at night also, I don't know if this is side effect from vaccine or I had been exposed to some virus previously? My children got the nasal mist same day, I also had tonsillectomy 2 weeks previously, and I'm sure my immune system was low, anyone else feeling this way after receiving vaccine?

I'm 33 wks pregnant and got the vaccine along with my 6 yr old daughter. Had arm pain, diarrhea and malaise...not sure if the malaise was just my paranoia!! My daughter had zero side effects, but now is complaining of a leg cramp. Would not get the vaccine again and will not be getting it for my younger sons. It still makes me nervous!!

I got the vaccine today.
I'm a teenage girl with a chronic illness, so it seemed like a good idea.
I've got tenderness, pain and muscle cramps all down the arm i got the vaccine in, plus malaise and a fever.
However, knowing that all of these things are temporary, I'd take this over swine flu any day.
I know people who have swine flu, and I saw a girl get carried out of my school on a stretcher the other day because the flu had hit her so hard and so fast and caused her lungs to like, almost completely shut down because of her asthma. It scared me into getting the shot.
My advice: if you have a medical condition, or it's a young kid... get the shot. Otherwise, wait a while until they know more about the long term side effects.

I am a 22 year-old female and I got the vaccine and I have a sore arm, but I expected that, I mean, they do shove a needle into your muscle tissue. Other than that, I have a very runny nose, but I feel great. I have spherocitosis which causes severe anemia and because of it I have an enlarged spleen and I am awaiting surgery to get my spleen removed. It was recommended by both my surgeon my hematologist to get the shot in order to avoid major complications. I feel very confident with my choice.

I too am amazed at the semi literate questions and assertions below from those who doubt or don't understand the nature of vaccines and this vaccine in particular. I had my swine flu shot 6 days ago and
had fewer side effects than from the regular seasonal flu vaccine. If you have any vaccine and have difficulty breathing or hives...that is a sign of an allergic reaction and you should immediately contact your physician. Allergic reactions to vaccines, if they are going to happen, typically happen within minutes to an hour or so....serious ones i.e. ones that cause anaphylactic shock need to be treated immediately...but this is the nature of vaccines. That's why they ask you to wait around a few minutes after injection to see if you have an allergic response.
Dystonia in 1 out of 150? Not true. And sorry to the religious fanatic but praying isn't a good protection from the flu.

Hi, i'm also 22 and just got the vaccine yesterday. I have a bit of side effects (feeling dizzy, tired and my arms hurts) but nothing more.

I see that some people wrote that they think the disease doesn't exist and the vaccine is fake..well i see it like this, there are 3 options :
a) the disease is as bad as they say, i take the shot and therefore i'm safe from getting too sick
b) the disease is not as bad as they say, the vaccine is made of whatever banal things they could find and i get the shot and it doesn't change anything in my life
c) the disease is bad or medium , but the vaccine also contains things that is harmful to me. So i take the chance of taking it because that the disease is bad is a certainty (people have died from it), that the vaccine is bad is an unknown fact... so i go with what i am certain of...and so should you.

I'm a 32 year old woman I had the vaccine last wed. along with my 14 month old, my 4 yr old and my husband. The baby came through like a trooper with just a mild fever for aboout 36 hrs normal for any vaccine. My husband and I both suffered the soreness in our arms for about 2 days. Our 4 on the other hand came down with a fever on Fri night that spiked to 103.5 and that spurred a trip to emerge for reassurance that this was only a side effect of the vaccine. The fever lasted until Sunday. Every kid is different in how they react but it's better to have the shot and be aware of what the effects could be than take a chance on the actual virus where you don't know what the outcome may be.

Wow really, I can't prove that jumping off the cliff is going to kill me so I'll do it?

That has got to be some of the worst logic I’ve ever seen anyone put into type. How about this, I’ll sit back and let all of you play Russian Roulette with your ability to walk, talk, and oh… say… breathe on the off chance that I will contract H1N1 before enough of you with outstanding cognitive abilities turn yourselves into guinea pigs. And I will not subject my 5 year old daughter to phase one of public trials either. As it stands now she is healthy and has no known underlying health conditions that put her at any higher risk than her age does.

But let’s not go around thinking I am ungrateful, without folks like you phase 1 of the public trials would not be complete.

???????

And the 13 year old boy who just died of it in my city was a star athlete and a junior coach of his hockey team; perfectly healthy and given a clean bill of health from his doctor, just days prior to contracting H1N1 and dropping dead at home.

As a person with an immune deficiency due to chronic illness I didn't have a choice, really. I get vaccinated or I run the very real risk of dying. I get ill almost every winter, and although I don't like the idea of taking a vaccine, I didn't want to chance it this time.

Not everybody who takes the vaccine is an idiot or trying to be a “guinea pig” or trying to play “Russian Roulette with your ability to walk, talk, and oh… say… breathe”. Some of us are between a rock and a hard place, and just trying to do the best we can.

This vaccine has been tested, no severe outcomes or deaths are reported. Most common side effect is soreness in the muscle. Some reports more systemic effects, like chills, fever, nausea, vomiting, dizziness.. The fact is, this vaccine really works. Typically, a seasonal flu shot will protect 60% of the people getting it from getting the flu, the H1N1 has rates above 90%! This is a potentially deadly and harmful virus. Even though most people will only experience mild symptoms.. Pregnant women and newborns are found to be especially at risk to get very ill. I work in a labour and delivery ward, and have already seen severely ill pregnant women with no pre-excisiting medical factors. Get the flu shot if you can, not only for your own sake, but to protect the ones that are more vulnerable..

All those people who think they can live on without it are just trying to act tough. I have taken it and although i have a headache I still am way more safe then those who think they are to good for it. Also I did a little bit of research on it and have thought that it was pretty safe from my point of view. It may have side effects, but i would rather have that then die from the h1n1 virus.

My concern is they say age 9 and under should recieve the vaccine twice, waiting 21 days in between... why? With the rate of deaths increasing every day it seems like there are not a lot of choices. I have yet to talk to one doctor who says not to get the shot, though they do say take the shot over the nasal spray. And after doing research I agree. They say the vaccine can cause neurological damage, the spray goes directly up the nasal passage and towards the brain.. so if it is true the risks are definately higher if using the spray. I have yet to meet a doctor or physician who has not had the vaccine and if it was harmful I doubt doctors would be taking a vaccine they know is going to cause harm to themselves. I definately have a sense of relief and am glad we had the vaccine not sure if I'll take the children back for seconds but ultimately glad. Trust me the government doesn't want to harm us because then they would have no one to control and govern, pharm companys don't want to harm us because its no fun being rich if you have no one to flaunt your money and cars in front of.

My family and I got the H1N1 vaccine earlier today. No serious side effects for us. Just slight soreness in the area were the needle went in. Better to be safe than sorry!

I had the H1N1 vaccine and the regular flu vaccine today. One in each arm. I felt dizzy and light headed right after and then my hands went a little numb and then extremely numb and then they went into spasm and crippled up. I had no pain. It felt as though they were vibrating. It was really weird and then it slowly left and I had full use of my fingers again. Doctor said I had some kind of reaction and not to worry. I'm a little worried and now not sure if I should give this to my kids.

I'm trying to make an educated decision....I have heard both arguments. We know for a fact what h1n1 is capable of....
I want to know of follow up to people who have had reactions to the vaccine. After you had flu like symptoms. What happened to the 11 yr old. What happened to the 4 yr old that spiked a fever?
Where did you get your info on dystonia (I mean the resource-for proof).
I have a neighbour that has been left with Guillain-Barre' syndrome, proven to be result of the flu vaccine.
What about the woman that feels suicidal after a week, and all the people with malaise?
Thanks for all the input. Alberta, Canada.

Got shot yesterday. Arm stiffened almost immediately. Later that evening I was foggy and slightly confused and had a bout of diarhea. Today I am extremely tired, my arm is so stiff and sore I can barely lift it (although anti inflams help), my whole body aches, I have a headache and I'm slightly feverish. This is the first flu shot I've ever had, and I do feel like crap, but it's manageable. Work was difficult though, had to leave early. These side effects are not in my head, btw.

So many people are saying, "I got it, better safe than sorry." The fact of the matter is, they are at the mercy of a vaccine created in a rushed panic!! Nobody has any clue what they have put in there bodies, for any of the vaccinated individuals to be so sure that there safer than anyone else. I refuse to put myself at the mercy of this vaccine, regaurdless of the fact that I'm pregnant. Some years ago when there was an H1N1 outbreak, a vaccine was given, and that vaccine killed many more people than the virus itself. I wonder if they thought "better safe than sorry" before they keeled over and croaked!!!!

My sister is 24 years old and diabetic so she is in the high risk group and got the H1N1 vaccine as well as the seasonal flu vaccine, 6 days after recieving the vaccines she started getting stomache pains and diarrhea, which turned into bloody diarrhea and then completely bloody. We are not 100% sure yet, but she has seen two gastrontogists and it seems like she had developed Crohns Disease, an auto immune disorder. I don't believe that this is a coincidence.

I'd have seen friend and Tamiflu and that makes them feel 100% worse. So even tho there is a risk it a risk im willing to take as i believe its the lesser of two evils! i'll report back once i've had the vaccine! :-) wish me luck Katy

I believe I had side effects from the swine vac but would rather have the side effects than to have the swine flu in general. I have had asthma since a child. Asthmatic have a 50% survival rate if not less in surviving the swine flu. The symptoms I had were body aches, fatigue, low grade fever and intestinal gas/pain and headaches. A few days of extra strength tylenol and a few cups of white tea did the trick. If you are vomiting or having diarrhea, drink chamomile tea and white tea as chamomile helps heal vomiting and diarrhea and white tea acts as a anti-viral. Take the tylenol to help with the fever and body aches until the tea kicks in.

unless you are deathly ill from the vaccination (possible egg allergy?) please stop panicking! A stuffy nose, a bit of a fever, some diarrhea or vomiting and achiness with lethargic or fatigue is nothing compared to the actual Swine Flu. My girlfriends daughter had it age 14 and had no underlying health issues but was running over a 104 fever, couldn't walk, dizzy, cough from hell, etc. She was out for over a week and it was very scarey. These minor symptoms you are feeling from the vaccination are nothing! If you are seriously ill from the vaccination, then possibly you have an allergy to it's ingredients other than the dead cell swine! This is an entirely different issue and perhaps you should have no flu vaccination whatsoever! Please don't discourage others from getting the swine vac as more vaccinated will help to eliminate this horrible virus. This virus is also making our pets ill! It also mutates and you can get it again in another form. Remember, H1N1, swine + bird flu!

Remember 1918 over half of americans died because they didn't have the meds or vaccinations we have today! what happened in 1977, 500 out of 48 million americans got Barrs. That is a very low percentage compared to how many did not! You have two decisions here. You take the vac and help yourself and the rest of the world or you take the chance of getting it, hope your immune system can ward off another opportunity that you will get it again in it's mutating stage. How do we handle a possible pandemic if we all don't assist one another to get rid of this VIRUS!

The 13yr old boy (star athlete like someone was mentionning) that died, suffered from an underlying condition! They found out that he had meningitis. Up until now there is nothing that is going to scare me enough to get the vaccine! Even less give it to my 3 yr old son! I am more scared of the fact that they came out with a vaccine in so little time; and now they want to TEST it on everyone...
Plus, all the information that is out there is confusing and contradicting! How are we to make an informed decision about this vaccine when all the info we get is so chaotic!??

answering the question of the 14 year old boy, no you will not die from the swine flu vaccination. While all of you are researching the 1970's regarding the swine flu vaccination, please research the 1918 epidemic when the vaccination was not available. In the 70's, the reason why 500 americans got barr, etc. from the swine vaccination is because the batch was not good. These things happen when people do not store the vaccination in the environment it is suppose to be stored in. This causes the vaccination to go bad just like when you buy meat or fish and forget to put it in the freezer. A school in the USA forgot to do this btw, so they through out 5,000 batches of vaccine. Good job! Getting it from your doctor would be the safest method or a clinic.

Here's something else to think about. When you go for your vaccination, do not go sick. Wait until your cold or flu leaves your body. This alone will cause a backfire! Also, remember that a Virus can lie dormant in your body for 4 weeks. If there is a virus in your body, after you get the flu shot, it will come out and then may confuse you thinking you are having a reaction to the vaccine. It takes a few weeks for the swine vaccine as well as the seasonal to work and become immune. Hope this helps.

I was at the doctors office yesterday for an unrelated issue, and found out that they had just got a shipment in of the shot (san diego area).. I opted for it as my 8 year old was sick from a flu about 2 weeks before.. The DOCTOR AND NURSE assured me that there was NO side affects to this shot, only they said if you were somehow allergic to eggs or something...(which i know I am not).. so I bit the bullet and took the shot.. (do not know which version it was).. this morning I felt like I got hit by a bus, my vision was severely hampered at times (very blurry), and it my lower back, legs and abdomen feel like I ran a damn marathon or something they are very very sore.... I vomited a couple of times, my nose has started running, (no fever yet) but I have had headaches on and off all day.. I have NEVER had a flu shot before this and I am 38 years old.. and I can't even remember having the flu in the past.. I am really wondering if I made the right decision here..

I'm a twenty year old female. I have asthma, so it was recommended I get the vaccine. So far, I havent had any side effects at all. There's been swelling where I was injected and my arm is sore, but nothing at all drastic. In a few more days, who knows? But for now I'm fine. I have absolutely no regrets regarding getting the vaccination. There's plenty of information out there for and against the vaccination...in the end you really have to try and make the informed decision yourself. For me, it was getting the vaccination. People are dying from this H1N1 virus.. no one has died from the vaccine. I would much rather have the mild side effects for a little while than die from the virus. Good luck and God bless you all in making your decision.

The swine flu vaccine was not put out much faster than a regular flu vaccine would have taken to be produced. More time, effort, manpower, and money did make it come out faster than normal, but it is produced in the same way as seasonal flu vaccine. The facts with the flu are already out there and the deaths and hospitalizations are on the news daily. How someone can see that and not think it's a major problem/pandemic is beyond me. I see it daily at the school I teach at when half of the class is out sick with swine flu. This is NOT like the normal flu with the amount of sickness it has caused. How people can still shun the vaccine is amazing. Please inform yourself before making a choice, but look at all sides. The fearmongering going on about the vaccine is overwhelming. However, the facts about the vaccines and test studies are out there as well for those who look for it. Many people who got sick after the vaccine could have also contracted the flu before and it is just now kicking in. It takes a while after getting the shot for you to become immune. I personally got the shot, and even if I become sick w/ side effects, it is MUCH better than my husband having to bury me at 29 because I contracted the flu from a student.

My 17 year old son and me (46 yr old dad) got our shots.
We both had sore arms for a few days but not serious. That's it.
I had some minor warmth and nausea when my immune system kicked in.
He felt nothing. Probably because he likely had the virus a week before
although they won't test you for it in canada unless you are admitted to a hospital.
If not for the sore arms for a few days in the case of me and my son
we would not have even known we had it.

Are you people insane? Or paranoid? Or both? Vaccines save lives every day. Think about how fortunate you are to even have the choice available to have it or not. There are people in 3rd world countries who cannot access or afford the same luxuries that you all are criticizing. I had the vaccine two days ago, and have had many vaccines in my life...the side effects were exactly the same as the HPV immunizations and tetanus shots. Why are we not raising eyebrows at the benefits of having those vaccines as well? Get serious, people. Any side effect must be better than dying from the H1N1 virus.

People keep saying wake up, YES WAKE UP, you have to realize that there are people if they don't get this vaccine they are at serious health risks, im a 15 year old male with asthma, got my shot today and I think it was the right decision, so there are side-effects, everything has side-effects, drinking to much coffee has side effects. Fair enough for people who are perfectly health but don't be spreading shit on the net that the vaccine is messed up because you are helping contribute to people dying, at the end of the day the pro's outweigh the cons.
People are also mentioning that the flu shot kills more than the virus does, it also saves many lives so use your brain, I feel ashamed that people have became so frightened at one little shot.
The vaccine has been tested and there are no serious side-effect, guaillain barre you say? odds are 1 in a million of getting it, it your that unlucky, come on.
If you are in the high-risk groups like myself, do the wise thing, get the vaccine and live.

PS. How many kids do you know with asthma, food allergies, learning disorders, autism or forms of it and countless other ailments. Don't you ever question??? Hardly anyone ever asks: "Why is my kid so sick, when the hasn't ever been a history of it in my family?"

Good grief. Way too much rhetoric from both sides! Come on everybody, KNOCK IT OFF ALREADY!!!

First, lets check some raw statistics I've been able extract from various data sets.
These are due to direct effects, not some weird collection of secondary effects.
Normal regular flu deaths ~ 1 in a million.
Flu shot serious side effects ~ 1 in a million.
Current pandemic H1N1 deaths ~ 150 in a million.
Average death rate by accident ~ 400 in a million.
Asian Flu deaths in 1957 ~ 1000 in a million.
Spanish Flu deaths in 1918 ~ 25000 in a million.
Should we get too excited about this current flu? NO! ....Oh sure, some healthy people will die, but not many.
Should we get excited if we have asthma or similar? Yes. ~ 70% of deaths are related to complications there-of.
Should we get excited for other health issues or age group? Yes. ~ 70% of deaths. (note overlap of percentages)

Secondly: Is the current vaccine great? Maybe not. It has some additives to help stretch the vaccine batch as far as possible, and still make it ~ 95% effective. And since it can take months to get a good batch and sorta test it, this would be the most reasonable way to make enough of it for almost everybody. (with possible side effects)
Alternatively, a basic vaccine (without additives) would be available for only a select few.

My take on this: I get the feeling that the hype related to this pandemic is more to do with the wish to put a special emergency pandemic preparedness system in place just in case a real Flu pandemic like the one in 1918 re-occurs. Of course, if such a flu broke out today, we all would be in serious trouble , as it could spread within weeks all around the world, and we'd all be dropping like flies!
But for right now, the guys most benefiting from this are the drug companies manufacturing the vaccines.
And if you are in one of the high risk groups, by all means, take the shot. It's safer than crossing the road.

To the "Humanity existed for billion of years" commenter: mass transit has only existed for DECADES. Diseases spread faster now because people move farther, faster now. Walk down the street and you'll likely pass at least ONE tourist who has recently travelled through many communities, any of which could have a rampant disease (it's not like there'd be a sign posted).

My 30-week pregnant wife and I just made the agonizing decision for her to get the shot, because we'd rather she get semi-predictable side effects at OUR convenience than be surprised by the flu. Do I 100% trust the vaccine, or its makers? No.

But I trust the virus even less.

If you're high-risk, get the vaccine. If you're young and healthy and don't mind putting high-risk people at risk, don't get it. Just stop trying to scare people with emotive language: there's already too much emotion, and not enough FACTS, out there.

Oh and those of you who DO get the vaccine, be prepared to feel ill, sore etc. for a while: that's just how the human body works. At least you'll know WHEN it's going to happen, and can plan for it.

BTW, about the "Why is my kid so sick" comment: there are dozens of researchers all around the world who are happily linking the increase of allergies, asthma, autism, ADD, etc. to the inordinate amount of preservatives, artificial colors, and artificial flavors in today's foods.

It's easy to blame something as acute as a pandemic and its inevitable vaccine, while you eat a hot dog and scull a soft drink.

WHO has reported millions of people around the world have received with no severe side effects or deaths. Stop with the made up fear mongering posts. No one has died, no one ended up in hospital with epilepsy and no, more people do not die from vaccines than flu. This vaccine has been proven safe and anyone that chooses not to get it should stay away from the hospitals when they get sick. You had a chance, made your chose so pay the consequences on your own instead of burdening the health care system. My wife (pregnant) had hers along with the 2 youngest (2 and 4). Waiting my turn with the 2 oldest are we are not on the priority list.

I was very hesitant, but my pediatrition took a long time talking bout the different types of vaccines for regular flu and swine flu. It is made just like the regular flu vaccination. They already ahd the tecjnology from that vaccination to be able to create another vaccine, just with a different virus. It should be as safe as the regular vaccination. Everyone is different, and some do have serious reactions. YOu need to research and make an educated decision, not just jump on the fear bandwagon.

I had my injection on saturday and all i have as a side effect is,its a little red,a little tender and feels hot in that area.If this is the only side effect that could save your life and others lives then take it.There are side effects with all medicines you just dont read into it as much as people are with this. They have perfected this vaccine since the one that caused people in america alot of problems. So dont pannick,my advice is better sick then dead. All these people moaning about being a little sick should think themselves lucky there is something out there to protect them against it.Whats worse?

I don't even want to talk about the H1N1 virus or the vaccine. My problem is with all you illiterate friggin' morons who are incapable of posting a comment that is even the least bit intelligible. For crying out loud, take the time to check your spelling and grammar before you post. Otherwise, you just look like an uneducated idiot with zero credibility. For those precious few of you who posted an articulate, thoughtful, and well-researched comment, I thank you. To the rest of you, I'm sorry I wasted my time on this website researching the topic only to be assaulted by your crap.

Well, look at the facts, your more likely to become seriously ill with swine flu, than you are with getting the vaccine.

Nearly my whole family has received it. My Mom, 2 brothers, me. One of my brothers being 18 months old (we got him preservative free, he still needs a second booster in a couple weeks) and we have all been fine.

Read up on it and consider what is more dangerous.

I had my vaccine today and feel good about it. If I can keep myself healthy and the clients I work with then it is worth it. I believe there is tooooo much info out there and people are getting misinformed. We live in a free country where we can make choices and that is what it comes down to "Is it right for you or is it not?"

I received my H1N1 vaccine Saturday morning. I was able to receive a vaccine without perservatives. I was shocked that I did not feel the shot at all and my arm has not been sore. Starting Monday, I started having muscle spasms and pain in my legs, arms, neck, and back. The pain has continued through today (Tuesday). I also have the sensation that something is sitting on my chest. It could all just be a coincidence. I do know that if you are experiencing some numbness in your extremeties, you should be aware that that is an early sign of Guillian-Barre. It is a rare disorder but it does occur. That was my only worry with getting this vaccine.

I got it 2 days ago in Markham. The only reaction I have is little sore at the injected area for that evening. Other than that, I feel great. I feel that I am very 'well protected' now. I will have my 10 years son to do the vaccine too. All the friends and colleagues that have the vaccination also have very mild reaction too, the most that has is a light fever. Special thanks to the Public Health in Toronto that provides an excellent and professional medical team. Helen

I hummed & hawed about whether or not to have the shot. I've never had a flu shot but after talking with my Dr., he strongly suggested it.
My arm feels like I've had a major bruise but that's about it. No ohter effects in temrs of anythig cold/flu related. I pride myself on a healthy lifestyle and it's been a long time since hubby & I have had a major flue. Knock on wood. Where we had it done was very well organized, we called and booked our appt. and after the shot we had to wait 15 mins. before leaving. Our Dr. was notified that we had the shot. I updated my own personal immunization chart for future reference.

They have been working on this vaccine for years.... please people go to the CDC website.... Think of the risks of not taking the vaccine , they way out any small side effect you might have. The FDA does not endorse medicaiton that is not trialed in advance. DO YOUR REASERCH BEFORE YOU ACT LIKE YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT. I took this vaccine and I am just fine.

I will not be getting the H1N1 vaccine. There has not been enough testing on the saftiness of the vaccine or long term side effects or even if any side effects may be passed on through the next generation of children.Example; deformities in child birth. I will wait to take the vaccine since the spread of this virus is considard low. Wash hands, ware a mask and stay away from medical facilities if possiable.(Most people are sick at these places and it is vary easy to contract a virus at medical facilities)

A 38 year old woman in my town died of the swine flu. She was apparently otherwise healthy. Get the shot...what's worse, a day or two of being inconvenienced or death? My daughter and I got our vaccines last week and feel great, plus I have piece of mind. (I was a little nervous beforehand, but SO glad I did.) I wasn't even sleeping at night worrying about the side-effects. Had absolutely NO side effects.

I had the vaccine on Friday 27th November. I am pregnant and discussed the issue with my husband first.
We decided that we would go ahead as not having the vaccination could leave me open to swine flu which could then lead to other illnesses and harm the baby. The risk to my health as medication available whilst pregnant is limited was also a consideration.
I have some of the mild symptoms (redness, tenderness and hardening of the skin), but these are general side affects and I had tenderness side affects to the Tetanus and Hep A vaccines I had before my honeymoon last year!
Other than the mild side affects I am feeling a little tired and "out of sorts" today, but it is Monday, we had a very busy weekend and I am 6 months pregnant so I am feeling pretty normal really!

I got the vaccine today (about 4 hours ago), the inhalant type. Right now I have malaise, chills and sweats, nausea, diarrhea, my whole body aches, and I just discovered a low grade fever. I'm 19. I regret not reading up on it before I got it. I regret getting it altogether, actually. I had doubts before I went, but ended up going anyways. Should have trusted my instincts.

Does anyone happen to know how long these side effects might last?

Ok just a heads up this flu in its current form isn't as deadly as normal flu (which adapts every 6 months or so hence the need for a yearly vaccination)

So if your a high risk who has never bothered with normal flu shots then dont bother with this one, if the virus does mutate and actually become deadly then they will remake the vaccine anyway

This current vaccine is nothing more than a fundraiser

Also you are risking mental/physical illnesses anytime you take a vaccine the odds are small in normal vaccines however make sure you dont take the swine flu vaccine with the oil in water adjuvant, this was the cause of the famous gulf war syndrome increasing your odds 200X of developing life shortning illneses (research it its fact)

only medical company to disagree is you guessed it the company that makde the vaccine as well as a smaller company that it owns. There are lots of independant researchers that beg to differ.

Also the company that has won the rights for this vaccine recently had a painkiller banned because of lethal side effects.

Research Novartis Prexige

All in all vacines are risky and they dont make you immune for ever only until the virus mutates and just a heads up scientists have found the current h1n1 contains swine flue bird flu 1918 flu which they believe to be near impossible of combining on their own accord and most viral experts believe this swine flu is man made :)

So just a reminder if you normally get vaccines for regular colds and flu, then by all means do get this vaccine but only the one without the oil/water adjuvant

Maybe we could all stick to the subject of any side-effects from the H1N1 vaccine. Since it wasn't properly tested, maybe everyone who gets the vaccine could share their experience here, ESPECIALLY pregnant woman, since the package insert does NOT recommend it for pregnancy, because there hasn't been enough testing.

I got the shot and feel fine. Those of you without the shot will have a 10-20% chance of getting the flu. Of those getting the shot, besides the usual side effect of any intermuscular injection of shoulder pain, have a less than 2.5% of moderate side effects, ie flu-like symptoms for 72 hours or so. It is hard to estimate precisely because it is so rare, but the cases of Guillaim-Barre syndrome is less than 1/million. While you have about 100/million chance of dying of the flu. Know the numbers and get vaccinated.

Plz do proper research, ppl! Yes, you should never take something entirely on faith and always question but plz make sure something has scientific evidence before you believe it, i.e. question even the other questioners. From what I can find from CONCRETE evidence gathered from health services and independent sources this vaccine is almost definitely perfectly safe.

Here's one of many similar cases: In the early 19th century, when mass vaccination to prevent smallpox began people were worrying that it would have unforeseen long term health implications (sound familiar?). Despite this vaccinations went ahead, these concerns proved unfounded and we now live in a world without smallpox.

The jist of what I'm saying is that using a combination of occams razor and past experiences I'd conclude that this vaccine is probably safe.

I had the swine flu vaccine on Tuesday as I have a heart condition (dilated cardiomyopathy), so decided the risk of the jab was much less than getting the flu itself. So far I've had a sore arm and mild muscle aches, but that doesn't bother me at all. The headache is more annoying, but it's not that bad so I can put up with it. No other side effects yet. I know people are worried about taking a new vaccine and I don't blame their concerns, but if like me you have serious existing health problems then you have to protect yourself in the best way you can from possible risks of things like swine flu. I for one am grateful I live in a country (UK) where I get the choice of a free vaccine.

Had jab 2 days ago, and have felt unwell ever since. Muscle aches, very sore throat, chills, running a fever and extremely lethargic. Had to take a day off work and have spent all my time in bed. I have a heart condition so felt it would be wise to take advantage of the free vaccine on the NHS. Sure it's better than getting this H1N1 flu itself. Not into conspiracy theories, unlike other postings i've read, I trust the govenment and my doctor. The side effects are not pleasant but I recommend getting vaccinated. I'm a 32yr old male from UK.

It is now available in my area and I am actually less afraid to risk getting the flu than getting the shot. Sounds like the side effects can mimic the flu anyhow, so what's the point? More importantly though, it seems an organic based flu- whatever it derives from - is somehow less scary than lab produced vaccines. Not worth the risk.

I understand that people are anxious about side effects (I had vaccination on Saturday and am experiencing aches, runny nose and slight temperature) but would encourage people to apply some common sense. There are risks in everything in life but better side effects than the risk of developing serious complications from the swine flu itself. The best person for advice is a medical professional.

I got the nasal mist vaccine yesterday at 9:30 am. Last night I came down with nausea, headache, fever, chills and lethargy. I'm feeling slightly better now (next day at 1pm). I've never had a reaction to a previous flu shot or mist. Typically, I'm against vaccines, particularly new ones (don't get me started on Gardisil) but I went ahead after hearing of several healthy people having serious complications from H1N1. One 40-year old woman had to have amputations due to the lack of oxygen that was caused. I do feel like a lab rat, but who knows what the right answer is? We will only know 10 years from now, I guess!

You can die from this vaccine; you can die from the H1N1 virus. According to people who have better information/education on this subject then most of us have your chances of dying from the vaccine are much much much less then the H1N1 virus. If you want to decrease your chance of dying from this flu pandemic get the vaccine. If you think you are smarter than the experts take your chances with the virus.

Needless to say I couldn't sleep(tried for a hour), So I just drank about 1L of boiled water and the warmth helped out and then I was able to get to sleep.

Next day arm felt a little dead but it was fine. It only hurt when you apply pressure, where the needle went in.

Arm went back to normal probably 3-4 days.

With all the internet commentary by the public I can see why there is so much confusion. I was a medic in the Army in the mid 70's and as was one who gave the shot, I remember severe side effects for many who received the shot the last time swine flu was around. I know that was a live vaccine where today's is dead or weakened. Based on the reported side effects I got the shot because nothing reported seemed to compare to actually geeting the flu and the possible complications. I had no side effects at all!

I got the vaccine on Tuesday (four days ago). Arm pain is still fairly intense & pain in my thumb? It is so intense that I took a strong pain reliever last night to knock me out. Since I had the flu last year, I can tell you that I would rather endure the pain than the flu! I always get sick this time of year - so I am happy that I won't have to worry about h1n1. Hopefully the side effects will subside soon. All muscle shots have these types of side effects. It is pretty sad that people show their ignorance acting as if the "government" wants them to drink the kool-aid......... sad!

The Government gave US troops vaccines during the first Persian Gulf War and now are left trying to figure out if they cause Persian gulf Syndrome. Read the symptoms: acute and chronic ailments including fatigue, loss of muscle control, headaches, dizziness and loss of balance, memory problems, muscle and joint pain, indigestion, skin problems. Sound familiar?

The Government gave US troops vaccines during the first Persian Gulf War and now are left trying to figure out if they cause Persian gulf Syndrome. Read the symptoms: acute and chronic ailments including fatigue, loss of muscle control, headaches, dizziness and loss of balance, memory problems, muscle and joint pain, indigestion, skin problems. Sound familiar?

None for me thanks.

Well on the dystonia note, I have had it since I was 11 because of hereditary issues. Just to let you know, it's not a fatal illness.

Also, the girl in the news (which is where this freakout occured) wasn't getting the H1N1 vaccine, it was just a seasonal vaccine. If the shot set it off in her, she had it beforehand without symptoms and the vaccine set it active. This is possible for dystonia - I got it from my fathers side, and his brother has a son who has dystonia yet he himself shows no signs of it.

While it's possible she got dystonia via some strange chemical trauma from the flu shot (again, not the H1N1 shot), its more likely she was a carrier and this simply brought the disease into action. My father never showed signs until his 50s, myself until 11, my brother at 5, my cousin at 18, and any other relative could show symptoms at any time.

Also, dystonia is a 1 in a million disease, and is often confused with Parkinsons (lower life expectancy) or Huntingtons (fatal) because of the more physically obvious shaking symptom. Dystonia itself is not fatal.

Just my input as someone who has the illness prior to this H1N1 hysteria.

Do you think that maybe 50% get placebo and50% get the H1N1 shot. I think the people who dont get sick at all get placebo, thats the way they are testing this vaccine. Dont take it...

The side effects are nothing compared to the flu. I've had the flu for a good two and a half weeks and it is nothing i have ever gone through before. My dad did get the shot and hasn't left my side and hasn't gotten sick. If i could go back in time i would get the shot.

Had the swine flu jag yesterday at my local doctors because i have athsma and a heart murmour. I have read all the comments about it. I have a really sore arm and back and i feel quite sick and emotional. But when I think about it if i got swine flu these effects would be much worse and I dont see any comments where people are saying it has got worse than feeling sick, sore arm etc. Its up to the person who's going to get it, no one is guinea pigs or whatever else, why would the government put the most vunerable at risk to be guinea pigs? exactly. I had the flu jag and had no side effects what so ever, only this one but it is nothing tragic

To the person who said that the people who experience no side effects have gotten a placebo...I got the vaccine 6 weeks ago and so did my boyfriend and his mother. None of us got side effects beside feeling a little tires the first evening and a little sour arm for 2 days, that's it! AND NO it was not a placebo because I was in contact with infected people and I did not get sick, nore any of the other people who were vaccionated and who had contact with the sick person. So the vaccine is very safe and VERY efficient!
I am amazed at the amount of uneducated people who blame the vaccine for anything and everything that happen to them after the vaccination. As if there was no possible other cause! I suspect that many of the side effects people experience are all in their mind! It if was so dangerous, everybody would get very sick from it but it's not the case. None of the people I know got any serious side effect, including my mother in law who is 89!
Some people are more afraid of the vaccine that did not kill anyone, yet they totaly ignore the thousdans of people who died from the virus? wow..what stupidity do so this. What about those hundreds of children who died from the flu? hello????!!

Don’t take it.
I had the swine flu shot in Norway the first week of December. I’m a perfectly healthy age group endurance athlete. Now a few weeks later, I have developed a rash on my stomach which feels like a thousand needles pinch me at the same time.

Wilmington NC- People are dying from this flu. My husband has been in the hospital for two months from complications of an Aortic dissection and was in the CVICU for 3 weeks. In that time I know of at least 5 people that died from pneumonia resulting from H1N1. One was the daughter of a local doctor. She wouldn't take the shot. In her memory, he held a free clinic the next weekend to try to get as many young people to take the shot as he could. His daughter was 22 with a newborn. She went to school with my son. Another doctor's husband is on a vent as I type this, fighting for his life from this flu. Make up your own mind. I got my shots. Yes, my arm is sore. But that is the only side effect. I want to live. This is my first hand knowledge of facts. Not hearsay. Candace

While Dr's and other medical professionals will say it's not possible, women are miscarrying from this vaccine as well. Miscarriages are common is the argument, but why will a Dr. blame a high fever from the flu for a miscarriage but the vaccine CAN'T cause one? I regret getting my shot because while the benefits may outweigh the risks for some, the risks for me was the life of my unborn baby.

I have a chronic illness that involves the immune system (it is overactive in some way) and on a drug called humira which suppresses the immune system by blocking a substance in your body called TNF. In the 1980's I got the Hep B Vaccine and experienced a relapse of the symptoms of my disease- muscle aches, joint pain etc. which lasted 3 years. So I refused to get another vaccine ever. Fast forward to last year when my doctor convinced me to get a seasonal flu shot because of this illness. I did and had no problems whatsoever. So this year I got a seasonal flu shot and again had no problems. I vowed I was not getting the H1N1 vaccine. Well, on Dec 17th my doctor advised that I get both the pneumococcal vaccine and H1N1 and I consented. He gave me the pneumococcal and I told him I was unsure about H1N1. Later that day I gave in and got it at work. Within 3 days I was back to square one with my chronic illness when I had been doing well on humira. Joint pain, flaring of neuropathy symptoms and a return of the malaise I had been treating. Its been several weeks and I'm still the same. I don't blame anyone but myself. My doctor was doing his job advising protection due to my illness. I get disgusted when I read about people saying "side effects are in your head" because they had none. I had none from the seasonal flu shot but did with the two others. Which one was it? Who knows. I didn't even have a sore arm from either.

the H1N1 virus has killed hundreds of people along the globe. Many of which had underlining health conditions but a small percentage of them were perfectly healthy. Not taking the vaccine is stupidity. Please read more about the benefits of the vaccine and its side effects. till now thousands of ppl took the vaccine and yet no deaths were recorded whilst on the other hand hundreds died and many more are being infected every day just because they didnt take the vaccine. Please note that before a vaccine is made it must pass from a strict medical board that ensures that no serious side effects come out from the vaccine. Vacination can save lifes and in the same time reduce and gradually eleminate the spread of the virus. look at TB it has been eridicated from developed countries, this is because we are vacinated from a young age, on the other hand in underdeverloped countries TB is a common source of illness that can eventually end up to ones death if no treatment is taken.

I received the H1N1 vaccine on December 19th and was OK until about 48 hours later. My eyes swelled to the point of almost closing and I developed skin rashes across my forehead, along both arms, on the shoulders, across my stomach and down both legs. The itching was a real problem. I developed a tightness in the chest to the point of ending up at the Accident & Emergency Department of my local hospital. I have since been prescribed strong anti-histamines and an inhaler.

I've never been allergic to anything, so if I could have the time over again, I'd skip the vaccine and take my chances with H1N1.

I got the vaccine and am not happy with the side effects I've been . The nurse/doctor who gave me my vaccine told me that pain would be gone in 2-3 days. It has now been a week since I've gotten this vaccine and I am off school as i can barely move because the muscle pains all over my body are excruciating. These muscle pains started the day i got the vaccine and spread from my left arm, where I got the jab, to all around my body. I also have the hot and cold chills and blocked nose and headaches. I am a 15 year old female and I am sure that this vaccine has caused the above symptoms.

My four year old has had the nasal H1N1 and then the shotH1N1 vaccine. Both were given between colds becuse the doctor said they were dead vaccines. He has stayed sick with high fever, vomitting, chills, runny nose and very bad nasal congestion. He has been to the doctor four times in the last 10 weeks. The !st visit the doctor said just treat the symptoms with over the counter medication. The 2nd visit Both my 4 and 5 year olds had ear infections, cough high fever, vomitting, nasal congestion, chills. So the doctor put them on antibiotics and perscription cough syrup. They finished the antibiotic in 10 days. My 5 year old got well. Four days later my 4 yr old was just as sick as he was before. Back to the doctor,3rd visit just over the counter medicine. Two more weeks past, he was still running fever and congested with a runny nose. 4th visit, the doctor said it would have to run it's course, over the counter med. Then he finally just had a runny nose no more fever for a week. He went back to school and by Sunday he's baking 103.6 again, two days later, with rotating Tylonol and Ibuproferin every 3 hours, now he's vomitting again. I don't know eeather I should take him to the doctor again or not. They keep saying treat the symptoms with over the counter medicine, It's just a very bad cold. I have 3 kids, they're 19, 5 and 4. This is the first experience I've had with any flu vacines. Before this year my kids had only had a couple of colds their entire litle lives, they never stayed sick for more than 7 days. I think we will just take the risk next year and opt out on the vaccines.

Both myself and my 2 year old son have been vaccinated, it was a difficult choice however i knew of many people who had recieved it and had no adverse side affects. My son seemed to not suffer any problems at all however within 8hrs of having my injection i started to feel awful and my arm around the injection site had swollen gone red and hard and extreamly painful. the next day it was worse and i had a nasty head ache. it took 4 full days before the pain an swelling started to subside by which time a lymph node in my neck had almost doubled in size! It took a total of 10 days post vaccination before i was pain free and my arm was still tender to touch for nearly another week. not sue now wether to follow government advice and have my 8month baby done.

Most symptoms are not the flu shot's fault. Chances are that some people will develop flu or a cold after getting the shot, before immunity has developed, or on the same day. But they would have developed that case of flu or a cold anyway, because the incubation period is about three days. Statistically you could even predict how many people will come down with flu or colds a day after the flu shot.

I'm 20 years old, nearly 37 weeks pregnant and just got the vaccine the other day. Maybe i'm just lucky but all i've had is a stiff arm and tiredness. I can't complain really due to restless nights i've probably had the best sleep i've had in ages! I know people are scared but i honestly don't think they'd be handing out a vaccine thats not been tested enough. In all honesty i probably wouldn't of bothered having it if i wasn't pregnant but i'm glad i did for the sake of my baby. Still, i feel too many people are worrying themselves sick. If you have illnesses or your healthy, decide for yourself if you want the jab. If not leave people to it. Your doc should hopefully be able to give you advice about the vaccine they are giving you. Remember we are incredibly lucky to have the resourses we have.

My husband of two years has an autoimmune disease (polymyocitis) and was told to get all the vaccines he can get his hands on. Pnemonia, flu, swine flu, etc. I have never received any flu or swine flu vaccines but felt like I needed to for his sake. I am very healthy (eat organics, don't use chemicals) and rarely get sick or take meds. 24 hours after getting the h1n1 vaccine I broke out in hives and terrible red rash. I have had it now for two months. I just went to the doctor again yesterday. They are giving me antihistamines and steroids to help me get through until the vaccine works it's way out of my system. Hopefully, it does. I don't trust dr's who support the vaccine any more than the government that supplies it. When I asked him for my medical records they DID NOT report that it was a side effect of the h1n1. Just a rash! So, I wouldn't believe any statistics that you read.

I've yet to read anyone mention that the H1N1 virus is mutating. This means that the vaccine being distributed today will do little to protect you from the virus as it takes on a new form. Several guest have mentioned that we should trust in the government and the FDA. Two organisation that are hardly "experts" on human biology, or worthy of putting our trust in. I'd suggest talking to pharmascists, biologists and even doctors to get a better idea of whether you require the vaccine.

I got the swine flu shot in November (in canada) and within a week my leg muscles disappeared. Now two months later I have no leg or arm muscles and have been diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome, the most serious side effect of the vaccine. I was a very healthy 58 year old 10 weeks ago, working in construction, and today i can't walk up a set of stairs in my house. The neurologist said 1-2 years for a recovery if I am lucky (check out prognosis for GBS). I would definitely encourage people NOT to get the swine flu vaccine unless you are in a very high risk group.

This paranoia is silly. Correlation does not equal causation, and in all test cases there were trivial side effects when compared to the sorry shape you'll be in if you actually GET swine flu. People have health flare ups ragardless of whether they take shots or not. Just because something happens after you take the shot, doesn't mean that you should just immediately assume that the shot caused it.
I have a lot of health issues normally. I took the shot and now I feel great--- even better than I felt before the shot. Does that mean the shot was responsible for my current good health?

As part of the military, my son, along with my husband and I, recieved the H1N1 vaccine the second week of Dec. 09'. My son was the only one of us to get the nasal spray. The next couple of days my husband and I felt the minor side effects. My son, on the other hand, was fine until about two weeks later. His sinuses were so congested, green drainage was coming out of his eyes. He had a slight fever, diarreha, achy body, and hives on the tips of his fingers and toes! By the time all of these symptoms were gone (second week of Jan. 10'), his daycare mixed him up with another child and gave him the vaccine again in the shot form! almost two weeks ago he got a badly congested nose, slight fever, hives on his ears, and a swollen throat. Everything has went away except his swollen tonsils.....he's been on antibiotics twice with no results. I don't know what to do....his doc is now talking about him seeing an ENT Dr.
I will never again allow H1N1 vaccine!

We were told many people had a similar flu in the 70's and swine flue does not seem to affect these people - possibly a natural immunity occurs.

My son was admitted to hospital after his temerature had risen to 40ºC = 104ºF after 6 days of being ill with naseua and lethargy. trhe paramedics said they have seen a spate of children being admitted to hospital having the flu jab. Hence why they have refused to have it (despite them being frontline staff).
It's strange how there is very little mention of this by our trustworthy government and media.

I had my family immunized and my husband and I suffered with aches and pains in our joints especially the knees, shoulders and arms. My husband is still complaining of aches & pains down to his fingers and joints from his shoulder 1 month after immunization. My son is 7 y.o. and he has to have 2 doses as he is under 10 years of age, the dr said it was because young children do not build immunity up as quickly as an older child or adult. It is a worry although my son never really complained of any side effects than aching shoulders. My older daughter 13 y.o. was exhausted within an hour of the needle she had aches and pains and had to go to sleep and rest. I feel fine now after a few weeks of aches and pains, it is best to be safe and be well prepared. If we are run down slightly to start with a common cold I would not have the shot give your body time to recover from that first otherwise you just run yourself down more.

At 89 years of age, Mom received the H1N1 vaccine in late October. Was "under the weather" a few weeks later; feeling "punk" by Christmas, numbness and tingling in hands and feet. Mom visited the emerg 3 times before admission when she could hardly walk and was in considerable pain. By early February, she was barely able to move her arms, could not move her legs, was incontinent and sadly, she passed away in early March. Guillan Barre was suggested to the doctor by family in the early stages but not followed up. I wonder......

Has anyone noted a link between serious complications from the H1N1 vaccine and shingles or post herpetic neuralgia which result in further severe neurologial problems (loss of muscle use, paralysis)?

both me and my husband have had side effects. His more serious than mine. He was hospitalised with a severe cough and chest infection within two weeks of the jab. He continues to get chest infections and the cough is still persitant. I too have a cough which will not go. I know of others in the same situation.

I had the H1N1 vaccine Dec 11th - later that evening had what felt like an allergic reaction - severely dizzy, cold sweats, tingling in hands and was knocked out for an entire weekend. After manading a feeling of being 'unwell' or 'off' for 2 weeks, was delivered to hospital via ambulance due to severe auto immune reaction. It was a total nighmare and it turned into peripheral neuropathy - the inflammation/irritation of all of the peripheral nerves in my body. Feet and legs numb and vibrating, buzzing, and electrical surges all throughout my body - severe malaise. It has been 3 months of disability/dealing with the fallout.

Be informed!

There is a group of us on medhelp.org under the immunizations and vaccines discussion forums - I found a group who have the same illness as me - if you are suffering from long lasting side effects - go there and get the support of people who understand.

Never again.

About an hour after my vaccine my arm became sore, 5 hours after my vaccine i started feeling headachey and chills, shaking alot and feeling extremely sick, this lasted over 24 hours then the vommitting started and lasted for 12 hours. I would never get the injection ever again!!!! I've had the flu many times but nothing close to the extent of how i felt after the vaccine. Not worth 50hours of feeling incredibly ill. I would not recommend this!

I received the shot monday morning. On tuesday I left a bit lousy. Wednesday morning I woke up completely dizzy, which lasted strong during the morning and was leass in the afternoon. Thursday just a slight dizziness. Now it is friday and I woke up completely dizzy again and I feel like I walk around like a drunk. Since I took the shot, I feel a bit feverish as well. I wonder when it will stop. As a cronic bronchitis sufferer, I had no choice...

Maybe we would not need a swine flu shot if everybody learned to use proper hygiene!!! I was shopping today and a store clerk who was clearly ill had her balled up tissue in her hands. Like I want my change back after that! Also seeing grown people not cover their mouths when they sneeze is disgusting. I carry a travel bottle of hand sanitizer around to wash up in an instant. I am pregnant so I had to get my swine flu shot yesterday. If people learned to practice good hygiene, stay home when sick then maybe I would not of had to. Joe Public you are Disgusting who raised you?

Some of you paranoid Hypochondriacs CRACK me up! You have probably been in hysterics worrying if you are going to get swine flu(most of you probably think you already have it) and so you RUSH to get the vaccine and then in your hypochondriac,OCD state turn on the vaccine saying it is hurting you. The conspiracy theory people are another brand of crazy entirely
I am more terrified of computers falling in the hands of crazy/ignorant people than I am of the swine flu vaccine. Get some professional help...run don't walk.

OMG seriously.... you do know that the evil government is putting microscopic transmitters in the injection so that they can track our every more via one center link and when the time is right they can hit one big flashing red button causing a deadly substance to leak out of the transmitter killing all who have had the vaccine instantly!
Really, do you people hear yourselves? You all sound stupid and unbalanced. If you don't want the flu shot, fine, but shut up about your convoluted theories. I don't want to hear it when you are sick with swine flu either.

My husband had the swine flu vaccine just over two weeks ago and he is experiencing diarrhea, nausea and fatigue. The reason he got the vaccine was because I am 6 months pregnant and he didn't want to put me at risk because he works in a busy office and is more likely to get it. Doctors have been advising me to get vaccinated while pregnant and there is no way I will get vaccinated because I don't trust a vaccine that isnt even safe on children under 5 or my husband. How can I trust it on my unborn child?. Thanks Australian Government, but NO THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!

I had been in debates wether or not to get the Swine Flu Needle for my 2 1/2 Yr Old, I asked everyone and questioned the Drs and Nurses they said it would be fine! I had it done in the morning and by 6pm that night she was shaking, her eyes were rolling in the back of her head she was unresponsive nad couldnt walk! After 18 hours in the hospital she was able to come home she seams to be okay for now - but I will never be getting a flu needle ever again!! She had rare side affects and she has only had 2 runny noses and 1 ear infection in her whole life!!!

My 12 year old niece was a happy, healthy 6th grader until she got the swine flu shot then followed by the regular flu shot. She's been having seizures ever since. They started in Nov. 2009. It's now July 2010. She's been to the University of Michigan hospital and the Mayo Clinic in MN. Now she is being treated by a Michigan State physician. She looks awful (very pale) and is on a concoction of valium, antidepressants and epilepsy drugs. She's gone from 20-30 seizures a day down to 4 or 5. She shakes when she walks. She cries a lot because she doesn't want to be sick. Not one doctor can figure out what's wrong with her. All the MRIs, EEGs, CAT scans and blood work have come back normal. It's a horrible situation. It really makes you wonder what exactly was in that shot.

I am the aunt of the 12 year old girl having seizures after the swine flu shot. I have asthma and have avoided getting the flu shot for years. I had breathing difficulties after a flu shot at age 17 and was told by my allergist never to get another one. Well, I decided to get it this year and I was fine. Nothing happened to me or my 13 year old son, but my niece truly became very ill with seizures. It can happen but I think it's very rare.

i do not support the idea of unprecautionary vaccination. before someone is vaccinated i think there should be a check-up on that person to ensure that the vaccine being introduced into his o her system wouldn't pose any significant hazard to the persons life.

My neice has been to the Mayo clinic because of the adverse side effects of the swine flu vacine. She has had so far 3 complete blood transfusions and is still very, very ill. She received the swine flu vacine in Dec. 2010 and is only 13 years old. Today she took a turn for the worse. The doctors at the Mayo Clinic say her body keeps forming more and more antibodies against this virus and the antibodies are actually distroying her own immune system. She is so sick. She is likely going to die from this. My brother and daughter in-in-law are beside themselves with grief. That they actually did this to their own daughter because the government told them it was the thing to do. They both work at a hospital. This is so sad.

I had the N1H1 shot on 14 January 2010 and I am still suffering pain & weaknes in the left arm & shoulder where I had severe, agonising pain after the shot. When I had a broken leg I took no pain relief as I have a high tolerance, but the after effects of H1N1 laid me out for nearly 3 months. To my horror, I had to live on strong pain killers to get any relief and to be able to sleep. I really struggled to be at work.
How to go about acquiring compensation from the drug company/supplier is the question

Had the vaccine earlier this week. I paid for it at my local pharmacy. I am in reasonable health and 50 years old. Yes my arm is a bit sore and I felt slightly off colour earlier today but it makes sense to go ahead with it both for myself and those I'm in contact with.

I had the swine flu jab back last November (Pandemrix GSK) within 3 days head ache for 3 weeks, vision effected, cordination gone, pulsating feeling in my left arm and leg and also on my face on occasion, cold and stress make it wore.
To this day I have had about 5 MRI scans, a dozen blood test of differant types and a lumbar puncher and after all that My Neuroligist has came back and side I have a mild form of A.D.E.M a condition that can be brought on by a vaccination.
Today I'm still not right.
I still have the pulsating feeling in my left arm and leg and some weakness and I running at about 60% rather that 100%.
If feel tired out for a number of hours during the day and also my head feels a bit all over the place from time to time.
My sister had similliar side effect, but not as bad.
Yes 1400 people have died from Swine Flu, but how may have really been effected for life after getting the vaccination.
But unfortunately no one will ever say it was the vaccination.
I have been told of loads of people with side effect.
I really do think that this was more a PR coo by the parma companies.

My son had a fever over 104, nausea and vomiting immediately after getting the shot last year and is still ill. He was taken to the ER and they refused to fill out an adverse event form. I continue to see people writing in about their adverse reactions, see articles about adverse reactions and have one at my house, but the above article says there has been no severe adverse reactions to it. Seems like proof not to believe anything they are saying.

About 30 minutes after I got my vaccine, I felt very nauseous. Since I was at work, I held it together for almost an hour, then headed to the bathroom where I had a episode of vomiting and diarrhea. I felt sick for another hour and then I felt fine. Maybe it was an allergic reaction, and that has never happened to me before.

Our family of 4 people got the swine flu shot on 2009. 6 months later, I got the horrible symtoms which is diarrhea, when I poo there is oily liquid floating on the water, hives, tingling, heat, and nerve pain spreading all over my body (from head to toe). If I had did this research about the swine flu vaccine shot sooner before taking it, this wouldn't have happened.

My 12 year old daughter had the H1N1/Flu shot in November 2010. 2 weeks later she had a sudden outbreak of head-to-toe itching and then the following day the itching was gone but she had sensitivity in her skin all over and extreme pain in her lower legs. This went on for 5 days and then the pain started to increase and climbed into her upper legs. We took her to the ER and she ended up being admitted. While there she got pain in her left arm and hand as well. When the pain started in her abdomen, the hospital transferred her to a pediatric ICU unit an hour away. She was there for a week, poked, prodded, etc. The doc said it is post-viral radiculopathy. Basically her nerves are being attacked. It's been almost 2 months now and she still hasn't recovered. She's in a wheelchair because the pain in her lower legs and feet is so bad she can't walk. She can't go to school because she's in so much pain and can't concentrate. There's no end in sight and it's heartbreaking to watch my daughter, who was so active and bright, and loved to play basketball, suffering with this condition! Don't let your child get this shot!!!!!!!!
